Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most complicated but popular poker games. It is a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites action from every level of players. This is the chief reason why a once irrelevant game, has expanded in acceptance so rapidly.

Omaha/8 begins just like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to each player. A round of wagering ensues where players can bet, check, or fold. 3 cards are given out, this is referred to as the flop. Another round of wagering ensues. Once all the gamblers have in turn called or dropped out, an additional card is flipped on the turn. Another round of betting ensues at which point the river card is flipped. The entrants will need to make the strongest high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is where a few players often get flustered. Unlike Texas Hold ‘Em, in which the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi/low the player must use precisely 3 cards from the board, and precisely two hole cards. Not a single card more, no less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot may be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It is the strongest hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It is the identical approach in just about all poker games.

A low hand is more difficult, but really opens up the play. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the worst hand that might be made, with the lowest being A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and lower. The low hand wins half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there is no lower hand available, the high hand takes the complete pot.

It may seem difficult at first, following a couple of rounds you will be agile enough to pick up on the base nuances of play simply enough. Since you have people betting for the low and wagering for the high, and since such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha 8 or better provides an amazing collection of wagering choices and owing to the fact that you have several individuals trying for the high, and many battling for the low. If you like a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to compete in Omaha 8 or better.
