Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most complicated but favored poker games. It is a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for play from every level of players. This is the chief reason why a once obscure game, has grown in acceptance so rapidly.

Omaha hi low begins just like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are dealt to every player. A sequence of betting ensues in which players can bet, check, or fold. Three cards are given out, this is called the flop. One more sequence of betting happens. Once all the players have in turn called or folded, an additional card is revealed on the turn. an additional sequence of betting follows at which point the river card is revealed. The gamblers must attempt to put together the best high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is the point where a few entrants often get baffled. Unlike Texas Hold ‘Em, where the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player must use precisely 3 cards from the board, and exactly 2 cards from their hand. Not a single card more, no less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot might be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It is the best possible hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It’s the very same approach in nearly all poker games.

The lower hand is more difficult, but certainly free’s up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that might be put together, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and below. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there’s no low hand presented, the higher hand wins the complete pot.

It may seem complex at first, following a couple of rounds you will be agile enough to pick up on the basic nuances of the game easily enough. Since you have people wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are being used at the same time, Omaha 8 or better provides an overwhelming collection of wagering choices and seeing that you have many players battling for the high hand, as well as several shooting for the low hand.
