Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is commonly seen as one of the most complicated but favored poker variations. It’s a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites play from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once invisible variation, has grown in acceptance so rapidly.

Omaha 8 or better begins just like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are given out to every player. A round of wagering ensues in which gamblers can wager, check, or fold. 3 cards are dealt out, this is referred to as the flop. Another sequence of wagering ensues. Once all the players have either called or folded, an additional card is revealed on the turn. a further round of wagering happens at which point the river card is revealed. The players must attempt to make the strongest high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is the point where many players can get confused. Unlike Texas Holdem, in which the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player must use precisely 3 cards on the board, and exactly 2 hole cards. No more, not a single card less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot could be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It is the strongest hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It is the very same approach in just about all poker games.

The lower hand is more complicated, but certainly opens up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that can be put together, with the lowest being A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and lower. The low hand wins half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there’s no lower hand presented, the high hand wins the complete pot.

It may seem difficult at first, after a few rounds you will be agile enough to pick up on the basic subtleties of the game with ease. Since you have people betting for the low and betting for the high, and seeing as so many cards are being used at the same time, Omaha/8 offers an amazing assortment of wagering choices and because you have numerous players shooting for the high, and many shooting for the low. If you love a game with a lot of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to participate in Omaha 8 or better.
