Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most difficult but favored poker games. It’s a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for action from all levels of players. This is the chief reason why a once irrelevant variation, has grown in popularity so rapidly.

Omaha Hi-Lo starts exactly like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to every player. A round of wagering ensues in which gamblers can wager, check, or drop out. Three cards are handed out, this is called the flop. Another sequence of wagering happens. After all the players have in turn called or folded, another card is flipped on the turn. an additional sequence of wagering happens at which point the river card is revealed. The players must attempt to put together the best high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is where many entrants can get flustered. Unlike Texas Hold ‘Em, in which the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi-low the player has to utilize exactly 3 cards on the board, and precisely two cards from their hand. No more, not a single card less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot can be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It is the strongest hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It’s the same notion in almost all poker games.

A lower hand is more complex, but certainly free’s up the play. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that might be made, with the lowest value being A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and below. The low hand takes half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there is no lower hand presented, the higher hand takes the entire pot.

It may seem difficult initially, after a couple of hands you will be agile enough to pick up on the base subtleties of play easily enough. Since you have individuals betting for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as so many cards are being used at once, Omaha 8 or better offers an amazing collection of betting possibilities and because you have many players trying for the high, and a few battling for the low. If you like a game with a lot of outs and actions, it is worth your time to participate in Omaha hi lo.
