Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly seen as one of the most difficult but popular poker games. It’s a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for play from every level of players. This is the primary reason why a once irrelevant game, has increased in popularity so amazingly.

Omaha hi lo starts like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are handed out to each player. A sequence of betting ensues where players can bet, check, or drop out. 3 cards are given out, this is called the flop. A further sequence of wagering ensues. After all the players have either called or dropped out, an additional card is revealed on the turn. an additional sequence of wagering ensues and then the river card is revealed. The entrants will have to put together the best high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is where a number of entrants get confused. Unlike Texas Hold ‘Em, in which the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player has to use precisely three cards on the board, and exactly 2 cards from their hand. No more, no less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot could be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is just what it sounds like. It is the strongest hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the same approach in almost every poker game.

A lower hand is more complex, but certainly opens up the play. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that could be made, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there’s no lower hand presented, the higher hand takes the whole pot.

While it seems complex at the outset, following a couple of rounds you will be able to get the base nuances of play simply enough. Since you have individuals wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and since such a large number of cards are being used at the same time, Omaha hi-low offers an exciting collection of wagering options and owing to the fact that you have many individuals battling for the high, and many battling for the low hand.
